Christmas Carols on the river 2021

Christmas Carols have officially arrived on the river!

Last week Christmas Carols on the river returned! Unfortunately we were unable to hold our annual Christmas charity event last year due to Covid-19, so it was a wonderful way to celebrate the countdown to Christmas this year with our Christmas Carols on the River event 2021.

Christmas carols on the river is an amazing event that can be enjoyed by all, with the option of a shared or private punt, everyone can join in with their favourite Christmas Carols! This year, we had a range of people joining us for the event, from big family groups to couples that wanted to be part of some festivities in aid of charity, and carolling is the perfect way to get you in the Christmas spirit!

Punting Special Events

We, at the Traditional Punting Company, want to bring something different to the punting industry and each year we hold various events to showcase, the river, the College Backs and Cambridge in a different light to our normal chauffeured punt tours that both local and tourists enjoy time and time again. At various points of the calendar year we also want to give back by fundraising for charities that we hold closely to our hearts. Throughout the years we have ran charities events for EACH, Children in need, Amnesty International and Cambridge homeless projects to name but a few. This year we once again welcomed the choir from St Johns the Evangelist Church to the river to help in our fundraising efforts for our chosen charity for this year. The Choir came dressed in their robes which they paired with Santa hats to go with the festive atmosphere!

St John the Evangelist Choir of Cambridge

The choir of St John the Evangelist has joined us year upon year to be apart of our charity efforts and their festive cheer that they bring definitely makes this a sold out event. The choir itself is a traditional robed SATB choir, that leads the music at all the main services at St Johns Church. The choir is made up of a strong treble line of girls and boys aged 7–18 years who follow their RSCM Voice for Life training scheme, with adult sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.

St John’s itself is a warm, welcoming and engaging parish church, that has been worshipping together in the south of Cambridge since 1896 and the choir has been an important part of worship at the church since.

Our Charity of choice this year; Blue Smile.

Blue Smile is a charity that focuses on the wellbeing and mental health of young children. By providing support for vulnerable young children Blue Smile are helping these children grow into young adults with the foundations that will carry them throughout life.

They do not only focus their attention on vulnerable children but they also offer services to help support parents, carers, and teachers to create a safe environment for everyone.

100% of the proceeds from the Christmas carols on the river event were donated to Blue Smile and together we managed to raise £770 in total.

If you too would like to support Blue Smile then please head over to their donation page, every little donation is appreciated and goes towards providing children support to build resilience, be happier, and engage in learning better.
