If you are looking to support a good cause then look no further. The East Anglian Air Ambulance is a life saving organisation and this year you can help fund their cause.
This year the East Anglian Air Ambulance is teaming up with Chariots of Fire in their annual 1.7 mile relay race.
About the East Anglian Air Ambulance
The East Anglian Air Ambulance is a life-saving emergency service that provides a 24 hour service. The team providing this round the clock support consists of 2 pilots, a doctor and a critical care paramedic and they average 8 rescues a day.
As previously stated the East Anglian Air Ambulance offers a 24/7 rescue service, but this has not always been the case. Previously, due to underfunding, there was a gap every day between 1.30am and 7am where there was no one on staff. Recently this has changed as the East Anglian Air Ambulance has become the first air ambulance service in the East of England to provide round the clock support. And a lot of this was due to public support and donations.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance does not only provide an emergency response service but also funds clinical research as well as providing CPR training to help provide the general public with vital, life-saving skills.
About the Race
The race itself takes place on Sunday the 19th of September, starting and ending at Queen’s Green, Cambridge. The route of the race takes you through some of Cambridge’s most iconic sights, including the city centre, Trinity College, and King’s College.
The race is a relay so only teams of 6 people can enter to run the 1.7 mile race. The event is organised so each team will take it in turns to run the picturesque route whilst being timed. The winner will be the group that is the fastest.
There is a £150 entry fee, which only breaks down to £25 per person. This event is in aid to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance’s cause of training people in CPR.
They aim to raise money to support their training and this is where you come in. Reach out to all your friends and family, and get the people who you are running with to do the same, to gain support not only for you but also for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Running with you…
You and your team are not alone in this competition. Not only do you have to beat the other teams you also have to beat the East Anglian Air Ambulance’s very own team.
Their team consists of Dr Neil Berry, a leading consultant for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, 3 clinicians, Dr Drew Welch, Dr Natalie Lonsdale, and Dr Kate Barkshire, the CEO, Mr Matthew Jones, and a former patient, Laura Bird – who is a seasoned multi-marathon runner.
All I can say to you is good luck!
