Dog Friendly Cambridge Punting

Dog Friendly Days in Cambridgeshire

Punting Along the River Cam

Punting is an outdoor activity in Cambridge that follows the River Cam along the College Backs. Chauffeured punt tours last for approximately 50 minutes and are a guided experience, taking you through the historic Cambridge University campus. It is both a quirky and traditional tourist activity that allows you to sightsee the city from the comforts of a boat.

During the tour you will see seven colleges, nine bridges and some of the most iconic sights that Cambridge offers, so sit back and relax whilst your tour guide does all the work. A punt boat can hold up to a maximum of 12 people, however this does not include your canine friends.

Can Dogs Go Punting in Cambridge?

Yes, we love to see your four-legged friends enjoying a dog friendly day out in Cambridge. However, finding places to enjoy your free time with your best friend is becoming harder and harder. The Traditional Punting Company tours are highly recommended as one of the best doggy-days-out activities. Dogs can join either a shared or private punting service and watch the ducks tentatively from the sideline.

Join Us for a Dog Friendly Cambridge Activity

At the Traditional Punting Company, we love dogs, and our staff are especially happy if one of our customers brings their dog with them for the ride. Dogs can join a tour free of charge, so it will not cost you any extra to enjoy one of our top rated punting tours. See our full price list here.

Summertime is the most popular time of the year to go punting in Cambridge, and is often the season where we see more dogs going for a swim in the River Cam to keep cool, either before or after the tour. Let’s be honest, they know how to have fun! During the tour, your dog will need to be able to control themselves (even if the water is tempting) otherwise it’ll be a long swim for them back to our landing stage.

Can I Still Come Punting with a Large Dog?

Yes of course. We would recommend booking a private punting tour, so you and your best friend have more space to enjoy a round trip on the Cambridge river especially if your dog is on the larger size. However, there is also the option to bring your well behaved (small to medium sized) dog onboard a shared punting tour.

We do, however, have to ask the other guests onboard whether they are happy for the dog to come along too (this is never normally a problem), but it could mean that you may have to wait for the next departure. If you would like to book a shared punting service and bring your dog with you for the tour, then you can always speak with one of our friendly sales team on 01223781306 and they’ll help you book the best punting service for you.

Share Your Dog Friendly Punting Cambridge Experience

We love to see everyone enjoying our punting Cambridge tours and sharing their experience on our social media – it’s great looking through all the photos. It is common to see dogs taking in everything that is around them on our guided tours, paying attention to the movement of the water, to the splashes created by the pole, to the people crossing the bridges along the river, but especially to their fellow companions on other punts. We secretly think they communicate with one another about how lucky they are to experience this! If you do come on board, please do not forget to tag your dog-friendly-punting experience with us on @traditional_punting_company.
