On Friday the 29th of July we welcomed our penultimate music guest, Liam Martin. After the success of Dorothèa’s set last week, we were incredibly excited to welcome Liam onboard.
A talented up-and-coming singer and songwriter, and a recent graduate of Anglia Ruskin University, Liam has a wide breadth of experience from playing private gigs to gracing the halls of his alma mater with his cinematic tone. The atmosphere of the River Cam was once again buzzing with self-hire punters, couples having romantic tours, and tourists taking in all the breathtaking sights Cambridge has to offer.
Music on The river
Music on the river is one of our special events for the summer to showcase the beauty of our city with live music. Cambridge is full of incredible artists and we wanted to share a part of the city’s music culture with our punting guests. Combining both talented musicians and punting at the best venue in town, the river Cam. The event takes place on Friday evenings throughout July and August and takes you on a 90 minute guided punting tour that travels the entire stretch of the college backs to the mill pond and back. The last event for 2022 is Ukulele Simon – performing on the 5th of August.
If one was to build a soundtrack to our evening on the river, one would have to include the strums of an acoustic guitar, Liam’s resounding timbre, the honk of geese in flight and the echo of aluminium poles hitting the river bottom.
Liam’s setlist was composed of covers of passionate ballards, including Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender, Hold Back The River by James Bay and Hold My Girl by George Ezra. These were all thoroughly enjoyed by all our customers, who had a good old sing-along.
Not only were we serenaded by some fantastic acoustic covers, we were also lucky enough to hear Liam’s single, ‘Light Brigade’ a stunningly emotive ballad.
One could really put Liam up with the likes of James Bay, Lewis Capaldi and Sam Smith.
During our music on the river punting event, one of our lovely customers popped the question. The level of affection that we all shared in that particular moment left everyone speechless. Punting is undoubtedly one of those intimate, romantic pastimes that make use of the river’s beautiful scenery. It resembles a scene from The Notebook or The Little Mermaid by Disney, and is one of the most popular activities in Cambridge for a proposal. The location of the proposal favoured by our customers is right in front of the Bridge of Sighs – there is a myth that you would find everlasting love by kissing your partner beneath this exact bridge.
We at the Traditional Punting Company, want to help you celebrate love to the fullest, from private punting tours for two to anniversary packages, we strive to make the perfect chauffeured romantic punting experience for you. From a large hand-tied bouquet of red roses to a shared picnic platter, it is the ultimate intimate experience for your loved one.
