A Holiday Romance in Cambridge

Romantic Festive Activities

Can you name a Christmas movie where a romance doesn’t blossom (except Home Alone)?

Exactly. It is hard. In the spirit of one of the most romantic seasons, we decided to curate a list of festive romantic activities for you and your partner to do.

Romantic Winter Punting

First up is of course sharing the love with us. Celebrate the festive season with your loved one whilst gliding along on a late afternoon romantic tour. Wrap up warm, add some roses or champagne to your order and spend some much-needed relaxing time on the river.

We are very lucky in Cambridge to have such atmospheric architecture and punting is the perfect way to bathe in all its glory. No, we are not biased, punting is literally the only way to access the whole length of the college backs.

So why not add something a bit different to your date nights this Christmas and book a Private Punting Tour with us.

Christmas at The Gonville Hotel

After your private punting tour with us, why not settle in for an overnight stay at The Gonville Hotel, located on the side of Parker’s Piece. This season they have plenty on offer to suit your holiday needs.

Fancy warming up after your punting tour with a Festive Afternoon Tea, served Wednesday through Sunday throughout December. A seasonal twist on a very British classic, treat yourself to the taste of Christmas with the menu including; Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches; mulled wine pear and dark chocolate filled choux bun; gingerbread and white chocolate mousse entremet.

Chestnut Group Pubs

The Chestnut Group Pubs have grown tremendously in East Anglia over recent years and for good reason.

Whether you have tried these fantastic pubs before or you are completely new, we really recommend trying one out during your time in Cambridge.

The Rupert Brooke is situated in Grantchester and its festive menu with the choice of either two courses for £30pp or three courses for £36pp is on offer until the 23rd of December.

The Carpenters Arms is situated in Great Wilbraham and not only do they offer a specially curated festive menu, they also offer a festive stay package. This package includes a festive-inspired cocktail, a Christmas gift, dinner for two, a restful night’s sleep and freshly prepared breakfast in the morning.

There is also a handful of properties that are open for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, check their website for details.

Christmas Culture Vulture

This year Cambridge Corn Exchange is hosting The International Classic Ballet Theatre from the United States. Over Christmas week they will be presenting The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. Although these performances are after Christmas, we are sure that they will extend your festive excitement.

New Year, New Me

Paus is a hillside retreat boasting stunning outdoor red cedar, woodfired hot tubs and saunas. On New Years’ day they are hosting a 90 minute yoga session, followed by journaling including reflecting on the past year and intention setting on the year ahead. There is also the option to enjoy a homemade lunch afterwards and to go bathe in the hot tubs.

This is a great idea to start the new year in a good steed or just a really refreshing hangover cure.
