Cambridge Punting Information
Here at the Traditional Punting Company, we strive to provide the best quality customer service, top rated tours and accessibility for all. That is why we are open every day of the year except Christmas Day. The only other time that we may not be open would be days of extreme weather as our staff and customers’ safety is our number one priority (these ‘closed days’ are few and far between and normally only occur in overhead electrical storms). Keep reading for more punting season information.
Being a tour operator we have our river location where you’ll embark on our Visit England Rose Marque tours as well as our back of house sales office. Our office hours differ from those down at our River Location. The office is open between 9am to 5pm Monday through to Sunday where you can speak to a member of our friendly sales team to book or discuss bookings, as well as helping with any other questions you may have. If you are calling out of office hours then you’ll be transferred to our river team if you have a booking that day or you can leave a voicemail and we’ll get back to you first thing at 9am.
Since punting is an outdoor business our hours of operation are governed by the weather and daylight. During the summer months, our river opening hours are longer allowing us to provide evening tours, with our punting service departing up until 9pm. However during the winter months our river opening hours are much shorter with tours departing up until 3pm. We always recommend dressing for the weather as well as the unpredictability of the British seasons. We always provide blankets and umbrellas for your comfort but a scarf and woolly hat doesn’t go a miss in the colder months. You are also more than welcome to bring your own food and drinks on board, so why not grab a hot drink from one of the Quayside cafe’s nearby before your tour. Or alternatively let us organise some picnics for you and your party to enjoy as you are effortlessly punted down-stream.
Booking your Cambridge Punting Tour
To avoid disappointment we always recommend booking your punting tour in advance either online, over the phone (01223 782306) or by email (info@traditionalpuntingcompany.com). By booking your chauffeured punt tour you’ll receive up to a 40% discount compared to our ‘on the day’ rates at our river location
There is also the option to book with our river team at our Punting Landing Stage on the day. They’ll book you onto the next available tour so please bear in mind that there could be a wait before disembarkation and the price offered will be more expensive than the online advertised rates. Browse our range of tours that are perfect for all events and seasons, such as Christmas Punt and Hunts, Mother’s Day Punting and Hen Do Punting
Punting in the Rain
Punting in Cambridge is a sightseeing outdoor activity, so we operate in most weather conditions. If you have booked a tour and rain is predicted then we are more than happy to reschedule your tour to another date or time depending on availability and notice given. Most customers join us on board regardless of the weather as the cooler and wetter conditions decrease the amount of river users, meaning a more unique and personal experience. Punting on a quiet river provides an atmosphere like no other, so take to the river in the morning, later on in the afternoon/evening or on a grey day to increase your chance of a tranquil trip.
