The Enduring Beauty of the River Cam in 2026
As we bid farewell to 2025 and embrace the opportunities of 2026, it’s only fitting to reflect on the accomplishments and memories that have defined the Traditional Punting Company this past year. Our dedication to delivering authentic punting experiences has allowed us to share the timeless beauty of Cambridge with both Cambridge locals and newcomers. Let’s journey through the seasons and celebrate the achievements that made 2025 unforgettable.
Winter Punting: Cold Air, Warm Romance
Despite the beauty of the winter season, 2025 was met with periods of challenging weather conditions. Persistent rains elevated river levels, occasionally disrupting our schedule. Despite the disruptions, safety and customer satisfaction remained our utmost priority, resulting in several exceptional tours! On days when conditions allowed, we operated as usual, providing umbrellas and blankets to keep guests comfortable.
As February emerged, we were pleased once again to provide our annual Valentine’s Day Romantic Punting Packages. Couples indulged in serene, unhurried cruises, enriched with complimentary chocolates and personalised accents. Our attentive chauffeurs went the extra mile to capture lasting memories and organise special requests, including floral arrangements, when contacted in advance.
Our dedication to providing exceptional experiences, even during challenging weather, was brought to light in the positive reviews from our kind customers. For instance, a review from January 2026 highlighted the professionalism and knowledge of our chauffeurs, contributing to a memorable experience “despite the cold weather”.
Looking forward, we invite you to plan a romantic punting experience along the River Cam this February. Our dedicated team is all set to exceed your expectations and make Valentine’s Day 2026 one to remember.
Spring Punting in Cambridge: Blossoms and Educational Family Activities
Cambridge’s springtime beauty emerged in full bloom this past year, coating the riverside in a kaleidoscope of colour and light. The warmer temperatures and longer days invited residents and visitors alike to explore the city’s scenic beauty. Our chauffeurs eagerly welcomed the first warm rays of sunlight, making punting a pleasant experience for both chauffeurs and customers alike.
In our continuous effort to enrich the traditional punting experience, we once again released our Nature Activity Booklets for the second year running. This year-round educational guide allowed customers to immerse themselves in Cambridge’s riverside beauty. This guide inspires discovery and fosters a deeper engagement with the natural surroundings of the River Cam. It’s perfect for those looking for something extra to accompany their tour.
Springtime Fun with Our Easter Punt and Hunt
This Easter saw the much-anticipated return of our Easter Punt and Hunt booklets, and 2025 turned out to be our biggest year yet. More families than ever took part, with record numbers of booklets being enjoyed along the river. It was wonderful to see children and parents alike getting involved, adding an extra layer of fun and discovery to their Easter outings.
We loved being able to bring a little more seasonal cheer to so many of your trips. We are already looking forward to Easter 2026 and the return of our Easter Punt and Hunt activity booklets.
Summer Punting: Milestones and Community Engagement
Summer 2025 was a season for the books. Not only did we reach a significant milestone by operating a record of 100 punts in a single day, but our dedicated chauffeurs operated in what was recorded as the UK’s hottest summer since 1976! If that’s not something to be proud of, I don’t know what is!
Another Year of Gold for Our Punting Tours
We are thrilled to have received VisitEngland’s Gold award for the second year in a row! This was truly one of our proudest moments. This prestigious award ranks our company among the top-scoring visitor attractions nationally. This year, we were honoured to achieve an exceptional 98% score in the latest VisitEngland Quality Assured Visitor Attraction assessment. This was a 2% improvement from last year’s score! This is an achievement that means a great deal to our entire team.
It is our firm belief that the attention to detail demonstrated by our brilliant chauffeurs and our dedication to traditional punting is what got us here. We are delighted to have been recognised as exceptional, and we are sincerely grateful for this prestigious acknowledgement.
An Evening of Sparkle and Celebration – May Ball fireworks 2026
This summer, one of the standout highlights was the opportunity to transport guests along the College Backs just in time to enjoy the May Ball fireworks. St John’s and Trinity Colleges delivered truly magnificent shows, illuminating the sky with unprecedented fireworks displays. Both colleges exceeded expectations once again this year, leaving both our customers and chauffeurs feeling exhilarated.
As we reflect on summer 2026, we are grateful for the milestones achieved, challenges overcome, and the community’s unwavering support. These experiences strengthen our resolve to continue offering exceptional punting tours and enriching Cambridge’s vibrant cultural tapestry.
Autumn Punting in Cambridge: Stunning Views and Timeless Traditions
As summer quietly slipped away, autumn began to settle over Cambridge beautifully. The days grew a little crisper, but the city only seemed to become more inviting. As riverside and college trees turned gold and red, Cambridge transformed into a city of timeless charm. September still offered plenty of gentle sunshine, making it a perfect time to be out on the water. By October and November, autumn had fully arrived. Misty mornings, soft light, and fallen leaves created scenes that felt straight out of a fantasy storybook.
Halloween saw the return of our much-loved Halloween Punt and Hunt booklet for children. Young explorers eagerly followed the clues and completed their spooky challenges as they punted along, turning the journey into an encapsulating experience. It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic everyone was, and the smiles at the end said it all when each child received their well-earned prize for completing the hunt.
A Spooktacular New River Experience
This autumn, we were thrilled to introduce something completely new: our very first Halloween Ghost Tour on the River Cam. As a local business, creating seasonal experiences has always been close to our hearts. Due to this, bringing a touch of mystery and storytelling to our traditional punting felt like a natural next step.
Over Halloween and the following evening, we welcomed guests aboard for an atmospheric journey through Cambridge after dark. As customers drifted past the city’s Gothic architecture, we told eerie stories of wandering monks, long-forgotten curses, and spirits said to haunt the river’s edge. The quiet of the evening and the rich history of the city combined to create an experience that was both eerie and enchanting. It quickly became a memorable highlight of our autumn season.
Winter on the River Cam
As the last of the autumn leaves fell, giving way to winter, we settled into a new flow on the river Cam. The air grew colder, but that didn’t stop us from welcoming guests aboard. Our chauffeurs wrapped up in gloves and heated gilets, ready to take on the chill with warm smiles and plenty of good cheer. The season brought a different kind of magic, but the sense of comfort, discovery, and connection that makes our tours so special remained the same.
Spreading Christmas Cheer Along the River Cam
December brought the return of some of our most beloved traditions: Christmas Carols on the river and our children’s Christmas Punt and Hunt booklets. This year’s Carols event was a resounding success. It captured the festive spirit of Cambridge and the hearts of all who attended. The Choir of St John the Evangelist graciously filled the air with their resonant voices, evoking cherished carols and the spirit of Christmas. Their harmonious melodies echoed along the river, creating a joyful and communal atmosphere.
We are proud to announce that the event raised £1,370 for Little Miracles Cambridge. This is a respected Cambridge charity dedicated to supporting families with children facing serious illness or disability. Every ticket purchased contributed to their invaluable work, emphasising the community’s generosity during the holiday season. In addition, we were pleased to be making a further £250 donation to the St John’s Evangelist Choir, in recognition of their generous and moving performance throughout the evening.
Following the success of Christmas Carols on the River 2025, we look forward to continuing this cherished seasonal tradition in the year ahead. Details of future festive events will be announced in due course.
